The City Council adopted a resolution establishing a regular time each year for the City Council to select the mayor and mayor pro tempore. Both positions are one-year terms, but there is no limit on the number of terms a council member can serve in either position.
The resolution states that in years when there is a general election for the City Council, the mayor and mayor pro tempore will be chosen at the first meeting that follows the certification of the results from the general election. In all other years the council will hold elections for the two positions at the first City Council meeting in December.
