‘How Can Teachers Win?’
* Re “California Schools Show Big Gains in Test Scores,” Oct. 5: How can teachers ever win? First, they were criticized for low test scores when the STAR test was initially administered. Now, with 71% of schools meeting the targeted scores set by the state, testing and educational policy experts suggest “that the state might have set the bar too low.” Perhaps these experts should start doing the teaching themselves. At least the students would score low enough to make their predictions correct.
