Horse Lovers Plan Ride in Mountains
A group of horse lovers from around Los Angeles County will host a trail ride through the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area on Saturday, then serve a free lunch to those who complete the ride.
Called Trail Ride for Recreational Access and Use, the event is being hosted by the 6-month-old Recreation and Equestrian Coalition.
The group aims to inform the public and policymakers about gaining access to diverse recreational parklands throughout the county, especially equestrian trails.
Organizers hope the ride will help show strong community support for the expansion of recreation, rather than development, in the Santa Monica Mountain Recreation Area.
“That’s what we’re about, we’re into promoting recreation,” said Ruth Gerson, the organization’s president. “We have folks from all over--Palos Verdes and Agua Dulce to Beverly Hills.”
Gerson said about 50 people have already signed up for the ride, which will begin at 10 a.m. at Malibu Valley Farms in Calabasas.
The 1 1/2-hour ride will go through scenic Malibu Creek State Park and Paramount Ranch. Lunch will be served about 2 p.m.
