PASADENA — A Fire Department captain was selected Monday by Gov. Gray Davis to be the state’s fire marshal for the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
Capt. John J. Tennant, 52, of Los Angeles has served for 23 years with Pasadena Fire Department and spent several years as president of its union local.
“I am delighted to have this opportunity. I am glad the governor has shown this confidence in me,” said Tennant, a 28-year employee of the Pasadena department. “Pasadena has been a wonderful place to work.”
Tennant, a key player in Pasadena politics during the last decade, also is an influential member of the 20,000-member California Professional Firefighters, which supported Davis.
The fire marshal position, which pays $108,753, requires state Senate confirmation.
