Nearly 30 Santa Paula middle school students participated in a daylong leadership conference on Tuesday.
The conference was designed to help at-risk students increase their confidence and develop healthy interactions with their peers, teachers and parents.
Middle school students from Fillmore, who attended a similar workshop, helped lead the Isbell Middle School students through Tuesday’s conference.
SKAMP, or Staff and Kids Making Progress, is a nonprofit program developed by the Higgy Foundation and sponsored by Limoneira Co. and Mission Produce. After the workshop, students will continue to meet weekly for a month.
“Our goal is to enrich the lives of kids regardless of their economic or academic standing,” said James Higgins, executive director of the Higgy Foundation.
Students from Mesa Verde Middle School in Moorpark have also participated in the leadership conference.
