WWII Memorial
* Re “Veterans Honored at New Memorial,” Nov. 12: My father would never talk about his experiences during World War II, except for the story about their dead horse the French dug up to eat. We knew how horrible it had been for him.
I believe the veterans should be honored for their sacrifice, but leave the Washington reflecting pool alone. I saw a rendering of the proposed memorial and it is a mess, a hodgepodge of columns that looks more like a memorial to memorials than a recognition of soldiers’ bravery. My crackpot theory is that the planned memorial is really a barrier to prevent people from exercising their right of assembly. No protests or concerts there! Take the money and use it to upgrade the Veterans Administration hospitals.
