SEASON AT A GLANCE: Hackett, the defending City Section pole vault champion, was slowed by a back injury in February but raised his school record to 16 feet in winning the Santa Barbara Easter Relays at Santa Barbara City College on Saturday.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Hackett, who tied for sixth in the state championships last year, moved to eighth on the all-time region list and first on the yearly state outdoor list with his 16-foot mark. He cleared 14-6, 15-0, 15-6 and 16-0 before missing three times at a meet-record 16-3. “It was real exciting,” Hackett said. “I definitely think I can go higher.”

YEAR: Junior
SPORT: Softball
SEASON AT A GLANCE: No one in the competitive Marmonte League is pitching better than Angelo (7-1), who has 82 strikeouts in 59 innings and five shutouts. Only one of the 29 hits allowed by the right-hander has gone for extra bases.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Angelo pitched three-hitters in victories over Westlake, 2-0, and Agoura, 5-0. She struck out 19 and walked three in the two games to help the Lancers, ranked No. 1 in the region by The Times, take sole possession of first place.
