Still short of bilingual enumerators to count non-English speakers, local Census Bureau recruiters believe they will be sufficiently staffed for this year’s national population survey.
James Thayer, manager of the Census Bureau’s Vista office, which covers coastal South County and north San Diego County, said the bureau gathered between 1,000 and 1,500 applicants who are vying to conduct the head count in San Clemente, Dana Point, San Juan Capistrano and a portion of Laguna Niguel.
Thayer said the bureau is now trying to find enumerators who can speak a second language, particularly Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese or Korean. Information: (888) 325-7733.
