SoCal Gas Hits a Meter Milestone

Southern California Gas Co. has installed its 5-millionth natural gas meter, becoming the first gas utility in the nation to hit that mark. The meter was installed at a single-family home in Corona. Those 5 million meters represent 18 million consumers in 23,000 square miles in Central and Southern California. Los Angeles-based Southern California Gas was founded 133 years ago and now is a subsidiary of San Diego-based Sempra Energy Corp., which also owns San Diego Gas & Electric.
