D.C. Voting Rights Rejected by Court

A three-judge panel ruled against District of Columbia citizens who filed two lawsuits seeking voting rights in Congress. The majority said in its 2-1 decision that although the denial of voting rights is an inequity, the Constitution and numerous courts have allowed it. The district has one delegate to Congress who cannot vote on the House floor. Mayor Anthony A. Williams said he will appeal the U.S. District Court ruling to the Supreme Court.
