Irish Setting
Re the RKO remake of “The Magnificent Ambersons” and the commitment to bring Orson Welles’ original vision to the screen as a four-hour TV miniseries (“Is RKO at Last Making Its Amends?” by Robert W. Welkos, March 12).
The story is set in the Midwest at the turn of the century and the producer says that it’s being filmed in Ireland because that will look the most like America of a hundred years ago. You don’t have to be the film commissioner from Kansas to know that this location decision is about money and not art.
