A 71-year-old Cypress man was critically injured Monday when his car collided with a big rig in Buena Park, authorities said.
James Myers was driving a 1984 Mercedes Benz north on Western Avenue shortly before noon when the car was broadsided by the truck in the intersection of Western and Artesia Boulevard, Buena Park Police Sgt. Chris Nunez said.
Investigators suspect that either Myers or the truck driver, Gilbert Juarez, ran a red light, Nunez said.
Myers was airlifted to UCI Medical Center in Orange with head injuries, Nunez said.
Myers’ wife, Deloris, and their 2-year-old grandson, who were passengers in the car, were taken to West Anaheim Medical Center with minor injuries.
Juarez was not injured.
