Civil rights activist Al Sharpton was ordered to spend 10 days in jail for obstructing traffic during a July 4 weekend highway sit-in in Atlantic City against racial profiling practices by New Jersey state police. Eight months after the Rev. Sharpton and 300 fellow demonstrators blocked a main highway connecting Atlantic City with the rest of the Eastern Seaboard, Municipal Judge Bruce Weekes sentenced the bellicose black activist to 30 days, with 20 days suspended. The sentence included $155 in court costs.
