Campus Shooting in Michigan
* With this country awash in guns (more than 200 million) it comes as no surprise that another school, this time in Michigan, had to suffer the excruciating pain and anguish of losing a child to campus gunfire.
No other country in the world has such a high number of guns per capita. Yet even after the recent murders of our schoolchildren, lawmakers seem paralyzed when it comes to effective gun control.
Common-sense remedies such as trigger locks, licensing gun owners, banning cheap handguns and requiring meaningful background checks would be a start.
No one wants to deny gun ownership but we must enact sensible legislation that ends the senseless slaughter of children on the campuses of our nation’s schools.
