Prep Seasons to Open in Baseball, Softball

High school softball also begins today, and one of the county’s first games pits two teams that might be among the best in the state.
In a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., Clovis, which was ranked No. 14 nationally in one publication, plays at Pacifica, a three-time defending Southern Section champion. On Saturday, Clovis plays a doubleheader at Foothill, also at 1 p.m.
The Fullerton tournament begins today at Lions Field and continues through Tuesday.
Three tournaments begin Saturday.
The Costa Mesa tournament at Tewinkle Park marks the return of Corona del Mar, which will play its first game after not fielding a team the past two seasons. Corona del Mar opens at 1 p.m. against La Quinta in the pool-format tournament, which continues on March 11.
The first round of the Brea Olinda tournament begins Saturday on the high school’s campus, and will continue Thursday.
The Cypress tournament begins Saturday at various locations--Arnold Park, Cypress High and Oak Knoll Park. It continues Monday through Wednesday, and the championship game will be played March 11.
