Agriculture Wages
* Re “Region’s Crop Totals Top $1 Billion for 1999,” July 13.
Do you have the courage and the smarts to ferret out the percentage of that which is paid for farm worker wages, and the percentage of that second amount that is actually received by the workers--after skimming by labor contractors? Agriculture is the largest industry in the state. The second and third (computers and entertainment) manage to pay a living wage to their employees.
Why not agriculture? Do we need a complete reorganization of this industry?
