The Civic Light Opera can dust off its props for a 2001 season. The City Council voted 4 to 1 to give the group a $40,000 grant to help the show go on.
The organization, formed 15 years ago, had to cancel its 1999 and 2000 seasons because it could not pay rent at the Forum Theater.
Members hugged each other, overjoyed by the council’s decision not just to grant the money but to make the commitment to pay rent year after year, depending on the group’s financial stability.
At least 40 people came to the Tuesday meeting to show their support for the Civic Light Opera.
