Motorcyclist Killed in Crash Identified
Authorities on Monday identified a 27-year-old Castaic man who was killed in a weekend motorcycle accident.
Matthew Fria died in a two-vehicle collision at about 2:40 p.m. Sunday on the southbound Golden State Freeway near Weldon Canyon Road, said California Highway Patrol Officer Frank Sansoni.
No one else was injured.
The wreck occurred shortly after CHP officers began rerouting traffic into the freeway’s truck lane, trying to clear an earlier minor traffic accident, Sansoni said.
Most commuters were driving at about 20 mph, when for an unknown reason, Fria sped up to about 40 mph, lost control of his Harley Davidson and struck the right rear of a Ford Explorer, the CHP said.
He suffered massive internal injuries and multiple lacerations.
Paramedics took Fria to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where he later died.
