Heights of Joy
Thank you for Susan Spano’s column about female climbers in Nepal (“Female Climbers, Guides Bring a New Perspective to Trekking in Nepal,” Her World, Jan. 23).
Last summer my husband and I took a trekking tour in Nepal. We had signed up with Snow Leopard Trekking and Mountaineering, mentioned in the article. We were pleasantly surprised at the organization of our tour. We did not need to worry about anything.
Yankila Sherpa, who is in charge of this company, is a modern Nepalese woman who runs a business in the Western style, but she has not lost the graciousness of a Nepalese woman. That can also be said for our culture guide, a highly educated woman who quoted Shakespeare and Goethe while taking us through Buddhist temples.
