Hazardous Waste Pickup Scheduled

The city’s roving Hazmobile soon will be collecting household hazardous wastes at a Mission College collection site.
The Hazmobile will be at the college’s south parking lot, 13356 Eldridge Ave. in Sylmar, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 12 and 13.
It is illegal to toss common household cleaners and other items labeled toxic, flammable or poison into regular trash cans, where they can end up polluting landfills. Pouring them down storm drains, where they flow into the ocean, is also forbidden.
Instead, the city encourages residents to drop off unwanted pesticides, cleaners, paint and motor oil at collection sites.
For more information, call the city’s household hazardous waste hotline at 1-800-98TOXIC.
