Slumbering Crescenta Valley No Match for Pasadena, 66-48

No matter how impressive Crescenta Valley High’s 15-5 record looks on paper, the Falcons continue to struggle against top teams.
Their latest stumble came Tuesday in a critical Pacific League boys’ basketball game against a quick, athletic Pasadena squad.
The Falcons (2-2 in league play) fell behind by 10 points at halftime and never threatened in a 66-48 loss at Pasadena.
Sophomore Dino Wilburn scored 20 points and senior point guard Reggie Harmon added 17 to keep the Bulldogs (14-5, 4-0) in a first-place tie with cross-town rival Muir.
“We were never in the game,” said Coach Jim Smiley of Crescenta Valley. “We were very timid. I’m shocked. It’s unacceptable.”
Crescenta Valley, ranked No. 9 in the region by The Times, tried repeatedly to get the ball inside to 6-foot-6 James Jenkins, who entered the game averaging 21.1 points.
But Jenkins did not adjust to Pasadena’s tenacious man-to-man defense and finished with 11 points.
Freshman Jimmy Goffredo was one of the few Falcon players who played aggressively, but he made only three of 17 shots.
