Golan Heights

In your Jan. 4 editorial, “Endgame for Israel and Syria,” you mentioned, “Syria seeks to regain the Golan Heights, which it lost to Israel in the 1967 war.” Just losing the Golan Heights is not the whole story. Why is it, most journalists don’t question why Syria started that war in the first place? Israel won the Golan Heights after being attacked by Syria.
Israel is a very small country and has already given back part of the Sinai to Egypt. Why not give Texas back to Mexico and see how willing they would be to settle for that!

I am so thrilled to see $30 billion targeted to keep peace in the Middle East. Sometimes, when my legs ache so much from polio, I think how nice it would be if the permanently handicapped in America got a little kickback from their taxes for a masseur or a housekeeper or a personal trainer. But if politicians decide the money goes overseas, who am I to argue? Say, where is Syria, anyway?
