Machine Business Damaged in Blaze

A fire Saturday caused more than $1 million in damage to machinery and the structure at a machine shop that makes switching devices, authorities said. No one was injured.
The fire started about 4:30 a.m. at Janco Corp. at 3111 Winona Ave., according to the Burbank Fire Department.
It took 30 firefighters about half an hour to extinguish the blaze, Fire Marshal Darryl Forbes said. The fire was confined to the one-story structure and did not spread to a nearby commercial building, he said.
Forbes said the fire started in a machine at the shop. A worker who was alone in the building stepped away from the equipment for a few minutes and discovered the fire when he returned.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation, Forbes said.
