Bradley to Resign at Loyola When Season Concludes
With his team suffering through a 2-23 season and yet to defeat a Division I opponent, Loyola Marymount basketball Coach Charles Bradley will resign at the end of the season, the school announced Monday.
Bradley, who is 20-59 in three seasons at LMU, is in the final year of a contract that probably would not have been renewed.
“We’ve had discussions about how the season was going numerous times this season,” Director of Athletics Bill Husak said. “Am I surprised [by the resignation]? No.”
This was Bradley’s make-or-break season, and hopes were high at LMU with the arrival of Georgia Tech transfer center Pablo Machado and return of all-West Coast Conference forward Elton Mashack leading Bradley’s first team composed solely of his recruits.
But this season has turned into a disaster, with the Lions’ only victories coming against a Division III team and an NAIA team and LMU carrying one of the lowest RPI ratings in the nation, 311 out of 318 Division I schools.
Husak said Bradley and his staff--who will return to LMU next season only if they’re hired by Bradley’s replacement--will coach the team through this season. The Lions have games Thursday and Sunday and the WCC tournament beginning March 4 at Santa Clara.
