Squeezed Into Doing the Right Thing
Twenty years ago, the airlines began the big squeeze, putting more seats in the economy cabins to maximize profits, so much so that they became close to medieval torture chambers [“American Touts Plan for More Legroom,” Feb. 4]. Passengers have rebelled and let Congress know of this abomination, which may be stirred to take action.
Sensing this, some airlines have opted to mitigate the situation. American Airlines is removing two rows of seats and doing the right thing. But get this: This will increase legroom to what it was before deregulation! This proves what corporate greed will do left unfettered.
