Times Pressroom Workers Vote Down Union
Pressroom employees at the Los Angeles Times and its parent company, Times Mirror Co., voted against joining the Graphic Communications International Union by a large margin, according to a ballot count at the National Labor Relations Board. Of 442 employees who cast ballots on Thursday and Friday, 107 voted for the union and 321 against it. One vote was voided and 14 were challenged. The election results will be certified in a week unless objections are filed by the union, which has made several attempts to organize the work force in recent years.
