Two freshmen players for Connecticut are being investigated for allegedly discussing swapping game tickets for shoes with employees at a clothing at a Hartford-area mall, according to televised reports. Freshmen Doug Wrenn and Tony Robertson were suspended for Saturday’s Michigan State game for an off-campus incident that occurred last month. Coach Jim Calhoun would not elaborate on the incident but said he learned of it last Thursday. . . . Utah forward Hanno Mottola will not play Thursday against San Diego State because of injuries to his left elbow and right thumb. Mottola, averaging a team high 17.5 points a game, was sidelined for Utah’s first eight games after having knee surgery one week before the start of the season. . . . The NCAA contacted St. John’s for further clarification regarding the case of sophomore guard Erick Barkley. Barkley was suspended by the school Saturday over a possible NCAA rules violation.
