INGLEWOOD — A Los Angeles man was jailed Wednesday on charges of conning 385 individuals and businesses out of about $400,000 in a computer sales scam, police said.
Dale Evans, 48, operated a business known as EarthInternet at 3311 W. Manchester Blvd. The company claimed to sell computer systems for just $300 and police said that as part of the scheme, customers were asked for the money up front.
“Some people did receive computers,” said Lt. Alex Perez, “but the vast majority did not.”
When Inglewood detectives determined Evans had left the area last month, he said, they obtained an arrest warrant on grand theft charges, leading to his arrest last week in San Francisco.
He was booked at Inglewood jail Wednesday and was being held on $410,000 bail.
