Dominguez Hills Penalizes Vanguard in Men’s Soccer

Cal State Dominguez Hills scored on two penalty kicks in the first half Saturday and went on to defeat Vanguard, 5-1, in a nonconference men’s soccer game at Vanguard.
Vanguard’s Michael Murphy scored with 10 minutes remaining to end the shutout bid for Dominguez Hills (1-0).
Victor Guerrero scored two goals and Alex Bengard had a goal and an assist for Dominguez Hills.
Vanguard is 0-2.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Megan Godfrey had seven kills for Vanguard, which lost its season opener, 15-5, 15-2, 15-5, at Cal Poly Pomona.
GOLF
Steve Conway of Irvine shot six-under-par 66 to move into second place after the second round of the Ping Phoenix Junior Championship in Tempe.
Conway is at six-under 138, three strokes behind leader Kevin Na of Diamond Bar. Jon Friedman of Irvine and Taylor Wood of Laguna Niguel are tied at 144.
In the girls’ event, Stella Lee of Irvine is tied for third at 147, five strokes back of leader Gina Umeck of Redlands.
