A man who had allegedly just stabbed his wife was shot and wounded by a sheriff’s deputy Thursday night after the man, armed with a machete, tried to attack the deputy’s partner, a sheriff’s sergeant said.
Two deputies from the Lancaster station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department were called to a home in the 44200 block of Kingtree Avenue at 7:55 p.m. by the couple’s daughter, who said her father was stabbing her mother, said Sgt. Ed Raulfton.
“When the deputies arrived, [the man] swung at one of the deputies with a machete and was shot” by the other deputy, who, Raulfton said, “shot to protect his partner.”
The man, who was shot in the upper torso, was taken to a local hospital, Raulfton said. His wife, who was hospitalized with wounds on her arms from fending off the machete, was expected to survive, Raulfton said.
No deputies were injured, said Sgt. Brenda Cambra, a department spokeswoman. Detectives from the sheriff’s homicide unit are investigating the incident.
