Newseum to Get Place of Prominence Near Capitol

WASHINGTON — The Newseum, a museum focused on the news media, will relocate to Pennsylvania Avenue, where it will be within walking distance of some of the nation’s most popular monuments, officials said Monday.
“Being located halfway between the White House and the Capitol is a terrific place for the Fourth Estate to be,” said Charles L. Overby, head of the Freedom Forum, which operates the Newseum.
Overby envisions a 300,000-square-foot facility, more than four times the exhibit space of the Newseum’s current home in Arlington, Va. The building will also house the Freedom Forum’s headquarters.
The facility could open by June 2003, Overby said.
