‘Millionaire’ Beats Bush’s Speech

More than 25 million television viewers watched presidential candidate George W. Bush deliver his acceptance speech Thursday evening at the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia.
The television audience was comparable to those for Republican nominee Bob Dole’s address in 1996, based on estimates from the networks and Nielsen Media Research.
Still, viewing for the convention remained low, with more people viewing ABC’s quiz show “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” on Thursday than tuned in to convention coverage on ABC, CBS and NBC combined.
Among cable networks, CNN drew 1.6 million viewers, followed by Fox News Channel with 1.1 million. MSNBC drew 506,000 viewers.
