Online retailer Buy.com Inc. and Toys R Us are expanding their online retail operations to include sports equipment through separate agreements with Web store developer Global Sports Inc., the companies announced Monday.
Buy.com in Aliso Viejo launched its sporting goods store Monday as one of 11 product categories customers can select from its home page. The store will carry more than 10,000 products for a variety of sports, including baseball, tennis, cycling and skating, as well as team apparel.
The site will target higher income males, ages 25 to 49, the company said.
In a separate announcement, Toys R Us said it will partner with Global Sports to create Sportsrus.com, a Web site that will offer sports merchandise targeting the youth market. The site, scheduled to open in the fall, will stand alone as a separate Web store, but will be linked to Toysrus.com.
