VENTURA — A Fontana man suspected of attempted murder led police on a high-speed chase through three counties early Wednesday before killing himself on the Ventura Freeway, authorities said.
Oscar Efrain Valenzuela, 20, described by police as a gang member, was found dead about 3:15 a.m. in the stolen sport utility vehicle he had been driving.
California Highway Patrol officers had laid a spike strip across the northbound freeway at Main Street and deflated the vehicle’s front tires. Valenzuela continued driving for about half a mile, to the Seaward Avenue offramp, before putting a gun to his head and shooting himself, police said.
No other motorists were injured.
