City Council Will Weigh Bonita Canyon Annexation
The City Council will discuss annexing the part of Irvine known as Bonita Canyon at its meeting Monday.
City Manager Kevin J. Murphy said officials in Irvine and Newport Beach must reach a quick decision on the land, south of the San Joaquin Hills Transportation Corridor.
The Irvine Co. will soon begin building homes on the land, and company officials have said they need to know which city the development will be part of before homes can be sold.
As part of the annexation agreement, the Irvine Co. agreed to set aside 34 acres of land for parks and a school in Bonita Village.
It also agreed to pay $5.8 million in fees that will go to the Newport-Mesa Unified School District.
The council meets Monday at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 3300 W. Newport Blvd. Information: (714) 644-3309.
