Riordan to Lead 20-Mile Bike Tour
Mayor Richard Riordan will join Valley residents in a 20-mile bicycle trek through the west San Fernando Valley on Saturday, the first in a series of community bike rides through Los Angeles neighborhoods.
Participants in Ride L.A. II, which will begin and end at Pierce College, are expected to meet at 7:30 a.m. on the corner of Mason Avenue and Victory Boulevard.
When the ride begins an hour later, the riders will pedal west on Victory to Canoga Avenue, through Warner Center and west again on Ventura Boulevard.
Heading north on Valley Circle Boulevard with a few side-street detours, the ride will traverse Woodland Hills and West Hills, ending up at Lazy J Ranch Park at Ingomar Street and Valley Circle, where the group will break.
From the park, the riders will take Roscoe Boulevard through Canoga Park and Winnetka to Tampa Avenue, where they will head south to Victory and back east to the Woodland Hills campus.
The ride is a five-event series organized by the mayor’s office, the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles Fire Department as a way for residents to explore their neighborhoods.
City officials said the ride will have minimal effect on streets along the route, which will be somewhat limited to traffic while bicyclists are in the vicinity.
To participate, bicyclists are required to wear a helmet, sign a liability waiver and must be at least 12 years old.
