Saddleback Has Enough Offense to Turn Back Golden West, 36-24
MISSION VIEJO — Saddleback scored late in the third quarter to put away Golden West, 36-24, in a Mission Conference Central Division opener Saturday afternoon at Saddleback College.
Saddleback (3-1) jumped to an early lead, when Paul Thompson caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from Matt O’Connor. Beau Wallace ran in for the conversion for an 8-0 lead.
But Golden West’s Danny Rubalcala scored with 41 seconds left in the first quarter to make it 8-8.
In the third quarter, Saddleback went ahead when Nick Gerasimou scored on an 11-yard run. Golden West (1-3) tied the score, 15-15, when Matt Thompson caught a three-yard touchdown pass.
Lawrence Mariner gave Saddleback the lead for good when he caught a 25-yard touchdown pass with 5:00 left in the third quarter.
