Marina Sweeps No. 1 Fountain Valley

Chanda McLeod had 14 kills and five blocks to lead No. 7 Marina to a three-game upset of No. 1 Fountain Valley in a Sunset League girls’ volleyball match Tuesday at Fountain Valley High.
Ashlee Phillips had 33 assists and Lindsay Phillips had 11 kills for Marina (5-1, 1-0), which won, 15-8, 15-3, 15-9.
Natalie Snowden had 13 kills for Fountain Valley (5-2, 0-1).
In other Sunset League matches:
Los Alamitos 3, No. 9 Esperanza 0--Los Alamitos, which didn’t win a match in Sunset League play last season, upset Esperanza, 16-14, 15-11, 15-13.
Kira Whelan had 23 kills and five aces to lead Los Alamitos (2-4, 1-0). Stephanie Ganst, who transferred to Los Alamitos from Esperanza this year, had 44 assists. Esperanza is 4-1, 0-1.
No. 2 Huntington Beach 3, Edison 0--Cammy and Rocky Ciarelli earned their 100th victory as co-coaches for Huntington Beach (7-1, 1-0). Ashley Ferris had seven kills in three games for the Oilers, who won, 15-8, 15-8, 15-1.
In the Sea View League:
No. 4 Newport Harbor 3, No. 8 Santa Margarita 1--Three key digs by Laura Wells in the fourth game helped Newport Harbor put away Santa Margarita, 15-13, 15-10, 11-15, 15-8. Wells finished with 11 digs and April Ross had 25 kills for the Sailors.
In the South Coast League:
No. 3 Mater Dei 3, No. 10 Capistrano Valley 0--Katie Rice had 34 assists and Megan Sabo had 11 kills as Mater Dei won, 16-14, 15-11, 15-3.
In Sunset League field hockey:
Marina 2, Edison 2--The Chargers (4-1-2) were down, 2-0, going into the second half, but goals from Melinda Nokes and Rachel Timoti, along with 10 saves by Jo Szafirski, kept Edison alive against Marina (5-0-3).
In Freeway League girls’ tennis:
La Habra 10, Sunny Hills 8--Kristy Steel and Kristin Coffey won three matches, 7-6, 6-4, 6-2, to help La Habra (9-1, 2-0) to the school’s first-ever victory over Sunny Hills (1-1 in league).
In the Pacific Coast League:
University 11, No. 8 Laguna Hills 7--The doubles team of Lucy Molnar and Annie Pham won, 6-3, 6-0, 6-3. University is 5-3, 2-0.
In the South Coast League:
No. 6 Mater Dei 11, No. 7 Capistrano Valley 7--Kristen Hoppe and Sarah Luckey swept in doubles for Mater Dei, 6-2, 6-2, 6-1. Capistrano Valley is also 7-2.
In nonleague water polo:
No. 2 Foothill 11, No. 5 Capistrano Valley 6--Robby Arroyo and Pat Logan each scored four goals for Foothill (7-2). Nick Ellis made 14 saves for the Knights.
