School Race Is Focus of Online Voter Guide

An activist group has launched an online voter guide that will focus on the race for Orange Unified School District trustee.
The guide, at https://www.cityvote.com, includes candidate platforms, local articles and even a “Town Hall” for exchanges among Internet users, said Michael Matsuda, co-founder of Santa Ana-based CityVote.
“The Internet provides a way for citizens to learn about politics and elections at their own convenience, from work, home, school or the public library,” he said.
Matsuda and his partner, Michael Yamashiro, based the project on the formats used by national voter groups. They cited polls showing that nearly 1 million voters learned about candidates by reading Web sites in the 1996 election.
Because election activity this year is relatively light, the Nov. 4 race in the controversial Orange district will dominate the site’s first few pages.
