College Forum to Focus on Redevelopment Plan
- Share via
Santa Monica College will host a forum at 7 p.m. Thursday at 1527 4th St. for comments on its proposed redevelopment master plan.
The Northridge earthquake left many buildings unusable, with classes moved to the Science Village and Library Village, said Rocky Young, the college’s vice president of planning and development. The master plan focuses on what happens when the villages are replaced with funds from a $23-million bond issue and an anticipated $40 million in federal disaster funds.
Also to be discussed is whether the new college gateway from Pico Boulevard should be a classical open street or include walk-through archways under buildings or a mix of both. The college is also deciding where to rebuild its swimming pool to make it more community accessible, he said.
