Michigan Loses Linebacker

Inside linebacker Eric Mayes, one of Michigan’s co-captains, will be lost for the season because of a knee injury. Mayes was injured during Saturday’s victory at Indiana. . . . George Barclay, the first player at North Carolina to be selected a first-team all-American, died Sunday night at his Asheville, N.C., home at the age of 87. The cause of death was not disclosed.
