City officials beat members of Save Our Youth in the fourth annual softball game between the groups Sunday at Lions Park.
A team featuring City Council members Libby A. Cowan, Joe Erickson and Heather K. Somers and City Manager Allan L. Roeder came from behind in the sixth inning--the last in softball--to beat middle and high school students from the youth program.
The four-year series is tied at 2-2, Erickson said.
“I think it was good for the young people at SOY to put faces and emotions with city officials to show that they’re real, not just people sitting up on a dais,” Erickson said.
Oscar Santoyo, director of SOY, led the youth team. Chamber of Commerce Director Ed Fawcett was the umpire.
The game was part of the Fourth Annual Roy Alvarado Memorial Fiesta Cultural, named for the late youth counselor who started the games. About 300 people attended.
