Santa Ana Trying to Stop Its Skid

Santa Ana seeks to end its two-game losing streak when the Dons host El Camino in a Mission Conference football game at 1 p.m. today at Santa Ana Stadium.
The Dons have opened the season with losses to Mt. San Antonio (20-10) and Long Beach (41-23).
Santa Ana didn’t lack for chances against Long Beach last week. The Dons ran 77 plays to Long Beach’s 49. The Dons scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to cut the lead to 34-23, but Long Beach scored its last touchdown in the final minute.
El Camino, led by quarterback Damion Ward (649 yards, eight touchdowns), is coming off a 41-6 thrashing of Riverside.
In other games:
Orange Coast (0-2) at Mt. San Antonio (3-0), 1:30 p.m.--Orange Coast had a bye last week. The Pirates’ first goal this week is to score after being shut out in the first two games.
Saddleback (1-1) vs. Pasadena (2-1), Occidental College, 1 p.m.--Saddleback is coming off a 14-13 loss to Cerritos that stopped its 18-game winning streak. Coach Bill Cunerty said afterward that Matt O’Connor is the starting quarterback and will no longer split time.
San Diego Mesa (0-3) vs. Fullerton (1-2), CS Fullerton, 7 p.m.--Fullerton, which had one net yard rushing in the first two games, had 165 in a 21-19 overtime victory against Pasadena last week. San Diego Mesa is averaging a conference-best 232 yards rushing. This is also Fullerton’s last home game until Nov. 1.
