U.S. to Begin Underground Nuclear Tests in Nevada

WASHINGTON — The Energy Department said it would begin controversial new underground nuclear weapons-related tests Wednesday at the government’s Nevada Test Site.
The government had been under a court order not to announce any tests until Friday, when a federal judge was expected to rule on a lawsuit filed by antinuclear groups seeking to stop the $40-billion program. The judge issued no decision Friday, according to Energy Department spokesman Chris Kielich.
