LIBERALS’ MALAISE
With the Democratic Party now little more than a watered-down version of the GOP, it’s easy to see why my fellow liberals, Hollywood or otherwise, are disenchanted with politics as practiced (marketed?) by the two major parties (“Are the Cash Cows Gone?” by Robert W. Welkos, June 22). What is Clinton if not “Bush/Dole Lite”?
Fortunately, there exist alternatives, such as the Green Party and the New Party, organizations based on principles, not cash flows. It is in their direction that liberal funds and energies should flow.
By the way, while Democrats may have toppled “like bowling pins” in the ’94 elections, the losers were overwhelmingly moderate. Liberals, Mario Cuomo to the contrary, fared much better than their middle-of-the-road contemporaries.
