Acacia Elementary Earns an A-Plus

The school year is coming to a close and it is a time of reflection. With public schools under constant scrutiny by the media and misinformed parents, I am proud to say that Acacia Elementary School in Thousand Oaks is what quality education is all about.

Acacia is not just a good school, it is a great school! I could not ask for a better education than what my two children have received.

Greatness is not easily achieved. It takes a combined effort with all parties involved wanting to work for a higher goal. It can’t happen without strong, effective leadership. Acacia has this in Fran Smith, the principal. Not only is she well respected by the students and her staff, she is always open to parents.

Acacia could not be great without the exceptional teachers. My daughter was in a small class, and her teacher, Susan Hober, challenged her and helped her develop pride in doing quality work. My daughter loved school, her teacher and developed a newfound confidence.

My son, a fifth-grader, had never insisted I meet a teacher until this year. I met Laura Detweiler, and I knew immediately why he wanted me to know her. Her warmth and openness are contagious. Combined with her superior teaching and organization she is someone my son and I will not likely forget.

Thank you, Acacia, for another remarkable year.
