Police to Increase Park, School Patrols

The Los Angeles Police Department’s Devonshire Division is beefing up patrols this week to make the transition from school to summer vacation a little smoother for Valley high school students.

Two-officer car patrols and C.R.A.S.H. (Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums) units are hitting the streets from 7 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. to ward off end-of-the-school-year drinking parties in local parks, loitering around high schools and gang activity, Det. Tony Foti said.

Officers will patrol teenage hangouts such as parks, arcades and pool halls. There will be an extra six two-person units on patrol in the Devonshire area this week, Foti said.

The special detail is expected to end Saturday. After that, one unit will patrol the schools during the day and another at night--in addition to patrols by regular staff members.
