Dreifort Strong in Rehab Start

Darren Dreifort, who has missed 29 games because of an elbow injury, gave up one hit in 2 2/3 innings in his second rehabilitation start for the Albuquerque Dukes on Sunday.

Dodger Manager Bill Russell said the club will wait to see whether Dreifort has any soreness before deciding whether to activate him.

Antonio Osuna or Darren Hall are likely to be demoted when the Dodgers activate Dreifort.

Osuna, who was recalled from Albuquerque on May 14, gave up the game-winning home run to Russ Davis in Saturday’s 9-8 loss to the Seattle Mariners.

Hall, who has given up only one earned run and six hits in his last 12 outings, relieved Mark Guthrie with the bases loaded and two out in the seventh inning of Sunday’s 8-2 loss and gave up a sacrifice fly to Alvaro Espinoza before inducing Joey Cora to ground out to second.

Dodger Executive Vice President Fred Claire said he thinks interleague play is a breath of fresh air.

“I think it’s good in every way,” Claire said. “I think the fan interest has been very high.

“As long as the schedule remains as balanced as you can have it, I really don’t think that anyone say that there’s an advantage there. If you look at it this year, all the teams in our division are playing a like number of games with teams in the American League West.

“I like it. I’m pleased with it. The attendance has been great and the interest has been great.”

With the Dodgers a season-high three games under .500, is Claire considering any trades?

“If [I] were, I wouldn’t tell you,” Claire said. “We’ll look within. That’s why we have a farm system, and that’s why Karim Garcia [recalled from Albuquerque when Todd Hollandsworth was demoted Thursday] is in a Dodger uniform.”
