Father’s Day themes on Showtime and KCET; how ‘Hercules’ was made on Disney; ABC has a ‘Pearl’

“The Magic Pearl,” an animated story based on Chinese folk tales, follows the journey of a sister and brother in their travels with their grandmother to a magical land (ABC, Sunday at 12:30 p.m.). The trio are trying to put to rest the haunting spirit of a little girl in the afterlife. The group is protected by a beautiful, magical pearl during their adventures. For ages 8 to 11.

In a Father’s Day special, KCET presents some of its weekday morning children’s programs Sunday from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. “Rip Van Winkle” starts things off with a slumber party at The Puzzle Place, where the kids discover they cannot get to sleep without their regular bedtime routines. The day’s theme for Adventures From the Book of Virtues (5:35 p.m.) is humility. Other programs to be shown include Sesame Street (4 p.m.), Storytime (5 p.m.) and Arthur (6:30 p.m.). For ages 2 to 12.

To celebrate the theatrical release of Walt Disney’s newest animation feature, “Hercules,” the Disney Channel offers two specials: Movie Surfers: Go Inside Disney’s Hercules (Sunday at 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.) shows the movie set and gives facts about the new feature. Disney’s Hercules Strikes Manhattan (Sunday at 7:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.) follows the “Hercules Electrical Parade” as it moves through the streets of New York. For the family.

In His Father’s Shoes (Showtime, Sunday at 8 p.m.) stars Louis Gossett Jr. in dual roles as an ailing father and grandfather to a young boy named Clay (Robert Ri’chard). The boy is devastated by his father’s death but, with the help of a magical pair of wing-tipped shoes, he is able to travel back in time and experience life as his father did. For ages 12 to 17.

“Graduation,” an episode on California Dreams (NBC, Saturday at 10:30 a.m.), delivers a strong anti-drinking and drunk driving message to children. For 10 to 15.
