Vigilantes’ Problems Mount in Shutout Loss

The Tri-City Posse handed the Vigilantes their first shutout of the season, 4-0, Saturday night at Saddleback College in a Western Baseball League game.

The Posse (10-11) scored all of its runs in the sixth inning off Vigilante starting pitcher Paul Anderson (1-3). Anderson went seven innings, giving up four earned runs on 10 hits and striking out five.

The Posse, who got two doubles from Kevin Booker, as well as a home run by Shawn Scott, recorded its fourth consecutive victory.

For the second consecutive game, Vigilante second baseman Bret Barberie, who has hit safely in all four games since joining the team, led his team with two of its five hits, including a double.

Derek Valenzuela (3-1) picked up the victory for the Posse in relief of starter Jose Salcedo. Valenzuela threw 4 2/3 innings, giving up only two hits.

The Vigilantes (9-12), who are 1-4 on the home stand, drew an announced crowd of 3,128 Saturday. The teams meet at 1:05 p.m. today.
